January 2013 Business Forum at MS&R Architecture

December 11, 2012 By EDC

January 2013 Business Forum
“Elements of Good Urban Design”

Please join the East Downtown Council for the January 2013 Business Forum on Thursday, January 17 at Meyer Scherer & Rockcastle, Ltd.

Paul C N Mellblom, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, a Principal at MS&R, will lead a discussion about design potential for the new stadium district.

Now that the stadium design process is underway, the community needs to focus more consciously on the area surrounding the new stadium.  Paul will examine four very different examples of successful urban design in North America.  Through such community education efforts Paul is hopeful Minneapolis can realize our collective, highest ideals for this emerging district, transforming it from a collection of surface parking lots into a vital extension of downtown Minneapolis, a connector uniting the Mill District and Eliot Park, and a conduit between downtown and the Cedar Riverside Neighborhood.

Following Paul’s presentation, David Frank, who is the Manager of Transit Oriented Development for the City of Minneapolis, will give an overview of the housing goals outlined in the Minneapolis Downtown Council’s 2025 Plan.  The hope is to double downtown’s population over the next 10-15 years.  Frank is the chair person of the Downtown Council’s task force charged with implementing the housing section of the plan.

Here is a link to information on the Downtown 2025 Plan.
