The next East Town Business Partnership Business Forum is Thursday, January 18, 2018, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Guthrie Theater in the 9th Floor Dowling Studio. The title for the November forum is “Helping Businesses Lead on Energy Efficiencies, Waste and Pollution Reductions.” Networking and lunch will start at 11:30 a.m., with the program starting at Noon.

Event Description:
The City of Minneapolis is seeking to lead the nation in renewal energy iniatitives and best practices for enrivonmental sustainability. The business community is playing a key role in both shaping policy and practice for the city. This forum will provide an overview of the 2040 Comprehensive plan for growth in the City of Minneapolis and feature subject experts discussing several new and innovative partnerships that are transforming how Minneapolis businesses can play a leading role in new energy efficiencies and waste reductions that are both good for business and the community.

Heather Worthington
Director, Long Range Planning

Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED)
Heather was appointed to the position of Director of Long Range Planning in September, 2017. Previously she was the first Deputy County Manager appointed in Ramsey County in June 2010, where she led the Economic Growth and Community Investment service team. She was the overall project manager for the cleanup and redevelopment of the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant (TCAAP), the state’s largest Superfund site; as well as leading the redevelopment of the former West Publishing site in downtown St. Paul. The departments of Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Workforce Solutions, Regional Rail, Property Management, Housing and Redevelopment, and Libraries reported to her.
With more than 20 years of leadership in local government organizations, including City Administrator of Falcon Heights, MN and Assistant City Manager of Edina, MN, Heather is committed to seeking authentic community engagement and leading racial equity efforts to strengthen communities that have experienced disparities and disinvestment. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from Hamline University, a BA in History/Historic Preservation from Michigan State University, and a certificate for the State and Local Executives Program from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. She lives in Saint Paul with her partner Chris and their dog and cats, and enjoys cycling, gardening, cooking for friends, singing, wood turning and welding.
Patrick Hanlon
Director of Environmental Programs
City of Minneapolis
Patrick Hanlon started as the new director of environmental programs for the Health Department Sept. 18 overseeing Lead and Healthy Homes and Environmental Services. His division works across departments and with partner organizations throughout the city to address indoor and outdoor environmental air quality and health related issues. This new position was created in response to increased attention on the health of the environment and its impact on human health.
Hanlon came to the City in 2005 as a restaurant security liaison after completing his Peace Corps service in the country of Vanuatu as a vocational teacher. While at the City he has worked as an administrative analyst for the Rainleader Disconnect Program, an environmental inspector, environmental supervisor and environmental initiatives manager for the Environmental Services Unit. Hanlon is a certified hazardous material manager with a technical background in lead risk assessment, asbestos inspections, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), storm-water management and other environmentally related fields.
Hanlon grew up in Minnesota but was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, and remains a die-hard Red Sox fan. His family owned a small restaurant called the Boston Garden where his job description was “waiter, bus boy, driver, maintenance person and whatever needed to be done.” He is a Cooper High School alum and completed his undergrad and graduate level work in environmental science at St. Cloud State University.
